How to Create a Phone Controlled LED Podium for a Game Show Host or for the Players at your Trivia Night Show

I am always looking for new ways to improve the production value at my events, and with such great and easy apps, I thought a great next step would be to have light up podiums. They turned out to be quite a bit easier to make than I had anticipated, so I wanted to share the steps below, and the links to all the items you will need on Amazon.

The total cost for each podium (minus the microphones, as I already had them) was $104.17.

Step 1: Order all the items you will require.

A) Red, Green, Blue, LED light strip with wifi control from Amazon - 2x 16.4 ft.

I just realized I wasted some money buying the waterproof version of these lights. You can save $8 per strip by purchasing the regular version. Oh well, at least I’m covered if I ever use them for an outdoor event.
B) Extra connectors for the RGB strips. I had some already and didn’t buy these, but these help connect the wires together, especially if you aren’t confortable using a soldering iron.

C)
Microphone Stand. Pretty straight forward. You can’t beat this price from Neewer.

D)
XLR Mic cords. Again, this is something I already had, but you can never have to many of these audio cords. They snap together too, to lengthen your reach.

E) The podium itself. I researched and went over many, many podiums options in this process. But for the price, and versatility of these ones by Techni Mobili have impressed me. You’ll have to set aside an hour or two to putting it together. It’s fairly easy though, and they include the necessary philips screwdriver.

Step 2: Put it all together.

Picture
Build your podium using the included instructions, You’ll notice the wheels with brakes, and that it compacts nicely. These come in very handy at my shows, and I’m sure you’ll like them too.

Cut the LED strips on the cut lines with enough length to go completely around the front of your podium on the top and bottom edge. They already have 3M tape on the back, so this is pretty easy. I put extra staples at the end to give extra security (See photo). Use your connecters and extra wire to connect the top strip to the bottom strip. Leave the wifi attachment on the base somewhere where you can point the remote at it. I stapled it tucked away and fed the power cord to it.

Step 3: Download the phone app to control the lights and set-up scenes.

Here is the link to the mobile app on Google Play. Though it should come with your LED strip too, along with further instructions

That’s it!

Have fun playing with the features on the app. There is music control, it connects with Spotify too I believe. There is a color wheel, and you can create scenes with ease. I made some fun color strobes when people chose the hidden side-games from our Fat Bottom Trivia - Game Show Presentations. And it worked wonders. I even had the kids up at my booth playing with my phone, and coming back for more once they realized I controlled all the stage lights.

5 Easy Ways To Entertain Your Friends Or Coworkers For The Christmas Holidays

12/22/2018

No clue how to entertain your friends or staff at your party, yet you want your get-together to be spoken of until New Year’s Eve? Want to impress that certain someone with your top-notch hosting skills? You will be the talk of the town if you follow these simple steps to party success!
Picture
Try These Ideas For Your Next Xmas Party:

1. Pick a Theme

Summon your inner grandma! Don ‘er (get it? Donner!) very best horny santa sweater. Instead of traditional ugly christmas sweaters, pick a theme. Memes/political/favorite tv show. Switch it up a bit! Remind everyone of Festivus for the rest of us! Or stir the pot by sporting a “Make Christmas Great Again” sweater.

2. Cut The Reservation Costs

Instead of having to prep your house just to make a mess of it, or spending too much money to rent event space at a hotel, make a reservation at your favorite bar/restaurant. More often than not they wont charge you to reserve the space, instead will have a tab minimum (which, lets face it, you and your drunk ass friends will be able to hit no problem). Be sure to order share plates and pitchers instead of individual meals to save a little extra dough.

3. Play Some Games!

Music Bingo Xmas edition is an easy, inexpensive and uber fun way to get everyone in your party involved. Who doesn’t want to get down with Wham! for a little holiday cheer? Not your style, no worries, Music Bingo Christmas has the hottest tunes from Ariana Grande to Frank Sinatra. There’s something for everybody. Bonus is, everybody already knows how to play bingo plus you get to listen to a variety of holiday tunes! Offer prizes such as shots/cookies/gift certificates, whichever fits into your price range.

4. Donate! Donate! Donate!
If your boyfriend/girlfriends friends haven’t quite accepted you to the group or are still trying to figure out what your deal is, show them how much you care by setting up a donation bin for those in need. Everybody has an extra sweater or jacket they will never wear again, make them feel good about themselves and keep the homeless a little toastier this winter by sending your warm clothes over to the Salvation Army or your favorite charitable organization.

 5. Create Christmas Cocktails

Whip up some liquid love such as spiked eggnog or a peppermint martini. There are endless recipes for christmas cocktails, step yours up by crushing up some candy canes, rimming a glass with simple syrup and making those drinks look fancy as f***. The difference between this and simply putting it in a mug, is if it looks nice, nobody will notice how badly you’ve (inevitably) messed it up.

No need to go over the top, a great christmas party needs just a few key tricks to stand out. Keep everyone entertained with interactive games and cocktails, do some good while looking good and support your local bars!

One of the funniest Music dobOFF bingo games is available. “Body Parts” is friendly for all audiences and a great addition to any social event or private party.

What can I say? This game should be a standard addition to all music bingo parties, especially for mixed crowds and first time players. It has quickly become one of my favorites to bring out, and it pretty much works everywhere, similar to Food Fight and Zoo Rock.

I have probably used this game over 20 times now, which is typically much more than necessary before launching a game, confident that it will be a good addition for other hosts, but it’s just so easy to break out! Especially in Bar & Restaurant gigs where you have transient guests that may have never tried a music bingo game before.

The mix of the generations really is a ton of fun, but the subtle jokes about different body parts really breaks the ice faster than other games. It is a family friendly game, but there are slightly risque jokes included too. The worst it gets is “My Ding-A-Ling” by Chuck Berry. So if you consider that offensive around children, I recommend skipping this one. But that joke is pretty mild compared to other innuendos seen in all ages movies such as Shrek or even most Disney movies nowadays.

Past that song, we hit pretty much all the limbs of the body, “With Arms Wide Open”! You’ll love transitioning from ZZ Top to Fitz and The Tantrums. You’ll be “Head Over Heels”, and dancing “Cheek to Cheek”. More puns?? Ok, if you get down “On Bended Knee” I will do a couple more. But I am sure some of you will be rolling your “Bette Davis Eyes” by the end of this…

"A Night At The Movies" - Play Songs From Movie Soundtracks At A Party or Event, While Guests "Dob" Off Squares On Their Bingo Cards For Lines And Prizes

12/4/2018

Hey, Dusty here with the latest and greatest entertainment to hit the block since J-Lo discovered leggings.

"Movie Soundtracks 1" is an awesome addition to any night of entertainment. A good mix of movies new and old come together and get your group interested in engaging in solid Rock and R&B tunes for about an hour; all depending on how much of the songs you choose to play!

I, personally, host all my shows in a fairly fast-paced format. I like to play 60-90 seconds of songs, or all the way though the "meat" of the song, as I like to call it.

There are a couple different ways to go about playing the music playlists:
  1. You can either announce at the beginning, on your microphone, that you are about to hit "shuffle" and for the crowd to get ready! Sometimes I'll make computer BOOP sounds after that. I do have a Sound FX app on my android phone that connects to my bluetooth speakers wirelessly, but it's usually funnier when I do it myself.
  2. Arrange the order of the songs as you go. Play your pump-up songs at the beginning of a show, and your heavy ballads towards the end of the game. It's always funny to bring the life back to the party with "Who Let The Dogs Out" by Baha Men
  3. Just play them in order! Follow fatcityentertainment on Spotify, and you will find the playlists are already in perfect order for a fun night ahead of you.

Stay tuned for the next installment of this fun game. You will find the first version of this Music dobOFF game in the fatcityentertainment.com Trivia Store

Like I said, this game lasts about an hour or less, depending on how deep you go. (That's what she said) So it would be a good idea to incorporate it along with another game or two at your event. If it's a Christmas Event, you could easily warm the group up with some light Christmas Party tunes, from the holiday game we have made. Then a little later on, try bringing out the Movie Soundtracks game. You could pick up a few DVD's to give away as prizes for the first Line "Bingo", then maybe 4 Corners... if you go all the way until Blackout, you can last a long time. (That's what he said? Or too far...)

You can get inventive when you go for your bingo's. So you think you could make a Christmas Tree out of the squares on the cards? I bet someone will try to convince you they have with some Charlie Brown looking thing, then you might have to tell them "no" on the microphone, and everyone will laugh at them. Maybe a fun idea for the president of the company, but not such a great idea for a little girl coming out of her shell. But you get the idea. Have fun with it! There are no rules in music bingo!
