If you have been hanging around these pages for awhile, then you are probably aware about our love for all thing music bingo! If you haven’t been here before, then let us enlighten you! Music Bingo is basically THE CHOICE for entertainment in pubs and restaurants across the country. Game play is pretty similar to regular bingo, except players have to match up the song being played to one of the clues on their card. It is one part bingo, one part dance party, and two parts music trivia! Sounds like a blast, right? Trust us, it is. Here at Fat City Entertainment, we already host two weekly music bingo shows, and we are always answering questions from people wanting to host their own show. So, because of all the buzz, we decided to create a Music Bingo Membership! Our membership will give you all the supplies you need to start your own show, no matter where you live. The bingo cards are available for instant download, and the bingo daubers are shipped right to your door. Boom. Music Bingo Show. First of all, let’s talk about those cards. Your membership will include enough cards to play twelve different games. This variety will make it easy for you to set up a weekly or monthly show, repeat shows are the best way to keep the revenue flowing! The subjects and music genres vary so you can play to your crowd, whether young or old, with things like The Beatles, Hair Bands, Michael Jackson, and One Hit Wonders. Some of the cards are a little trickier than others so choose your games wisely! Worried about where you will find all that music? Don’t be! The cards come with an accompanying Spotify playlist to make it super easy for you to get started. The rules of the game are super simple and easy to customize! Have your players get a tradition bingo (vertical, horizontal, or diagonal), or play games like 4 corners or double bingo. Have a playlist that you really love? Maximize the amount of songs you can hear by playing a full card blackout game! Next let’s discuss your show! Music bingo is an easy show to host, much easier to get started than a trivia show or open mic night. A music bingo host can run a 2 hour show in just about any venue with minimal equipment to set up. Just bring along these bingo cards and daubers, the Spotify playlist, and an iPod or laptop. If you can plug into your venue’s sound system that is great, otherwise, you may need to bring your own speaker. We also suggest using a microphone for hosting, but it is not absolutely necessary especially if you know how to project your voice. You can easily insert interactive bonus rounds or prizes in your game by making people sing or dance along to the music. Remember, you are the host! Make the show your own, and it will be that much more entertaining for your group! Last, let’s get excited about the daubers! It may not seem like they are that big of a deal, and you can surely run your show with a box of crayons, but your players will find your show that much more memorable when you whip out these multi-colored daubers. It adds just that little bit of flair that pub game players love. It can give your show an edge over the competition, especially if you are competing with a lot of venues in your area. Print your bingo sheets on colored paper to add even more fun, but just remember to make sure your print is legible and your daubers marks can be seen on whatever paper color you choose. Do you need another reason to snag yourself a music bingo membership? Probably not, but we wanted to throw in one last incentive anyway. Lucky you. Use the discount code: MB3030 for an extra 30% off the listed price. Now that is a good deal. Head over to the trivia store today and snag your music bingo membership before this limited time deal expires! (Coupon code is good for the next 30 days.) So, hosts, what are you waiting for? It’s time to play!

What makes a good trivia host? Well, that can be a bit of a subjective answer as personal tastes come in to play a bit. Now obviously, a good host is one that knows the game material, is prepared with correct pronunciations and explanations for the questions and answers, is able to enunciate clearly, and has a passion for hosting and trivia. But the thing that turns a good host into a great host is adding that touch of personality, that little bit of flair. A great trivia or music bingo host understands how to inject his or her personality into the show to keep the crowd entertained! Sure, the Fat City Entertainment trivia store can provide hosts with all the tools and resources needed to put on a quality show, but what we can’t provide is that little something that makes the show unique. As a great host, you have to learn how to put your own twist on the material and bring the “you” factor that will create loyal players. For example, we have an awesome monthly game show style trivia show at Bold Missy Brewery in Charlotte that is hosted by a local celebrity and drag queen Lana Cane! It is the perfect bit of flair for the Bold Missy regulars, and Lana really brings her personality to put on a quality show. Now, that doesn’t mean that you should do all your shows in drag (unless you are already an amazing drag queen, then by all means you do you!) It just means, that you gotta find your niche or your hosting personality. Do something easy like giving yourself a stage name or wearing a signature outfit. You can easily be known as the host that wears the purple pants or that rocks a funky hat. You could bring a bag of candies to toss out to your crowd when they get a question correctly! Celebrate their victory with a peppermint or make them feel a little better about being incorrect by tossing them a piece of chocolate. Easy bit of added flair. Are you an amazing baker? Then be the host that bakes a tray of muffins for the winner! Can you sing like an opera diva? Serenade your trivia crowd with an aria! Be the only singing trivia host in town. Are you amazing with accents? Let your trivia players suggest an accent, then do the whole show as a southern belle or a Scottish highlander! Are you wicked funny? Inject a little stand-up routine in between your rounds. It doesn’t really matter what your thing is. You can use whatever makes you unique to your advantage, and change your hosting gig from good to great! You will find that you build your crowd of regulars that much faster when you go from just reading the questions to actually hosting the show. Music Bingo is the entertainment choice for bars and pubs across the nation! If you visit this site often, you may remember us bringing that up before, and it is as true now as it was then! A little recap on what music bingo is all about: Music bingo is a super fun, fast-paced take on the traditional bingo game! Instead of getting lame cards with a bunch of numbers on them, the players are given cards that contain song titles, artist names, genres, or other music-related items. It sounds like fun, right? Well, it most definitely is, and we should know since we host shows each and every week! That's right, and since we know it is such a fun thing to do, we put together a few downloadable music bingo cards. Now you can get your game on no matter where you live! The And Then Their Was Hair set is all about...hair bands! You probably guessed that, didn't ya? Everyone loves a good hair band, and these cards cover all the greats from the 70s, 80s, and 90s! Your download includes 60 printable cards that are completely ready to go. All you need to do is follow Fat City on Spotify, use the Music Bingo-Hair playlist, and you've got yourself a show! The first step to hosting your very own show is finding your game. What are your interests? Are you full of useless trivia or an absolute music lover? Decide what kind of show you want to helm, and equally important, what kind of show you think you can sell! While some games may be a lot of fun for you and really pique your interest, if no one else is playing, then you will just be standing in front of an empty room. Once you figure out your genre, you could create your own game from scratch, but that definitely takes a lot of time and effort. Luckily, we have an entire trivia store full of games ready and waiting for a good host! There is general knowledge trivia, sports themed games, and even some awesome music bingo cards with premade playlists! Plus, we are constantly adding new products and seasons, so you will never run out of content! Get Your Gear Now that you've got your game picked out, you need to set up your equipment so that you can run your shows. If you are going with one of our Fat Bottom Trivia games, at the very least you will need a laptop that can run Powerpoint. However, to really put on a top-notch show, you are going to want a microphone, a speaker, and a secondary screen for projecting the game categories. Not ready to get that technical? Try for something easier like Music Bingo where you can get by with just your phone, a good speaker, and a mic. Perfect Your Delivery Before you can host your show, you have to get familiar with your materials. Read through the trivia questions and answers, look up any words you don't know how to pronounce. Develop a few side games or some interactive material to get the crowd engaged. (hint: people like music! Each of our games comes with a corresponding Spotify playlist, but if you are creating your own game, make sure to think about the music!) You should also think about your delivery. What kind of host do you want to be? Are you going to tell jokes, be snarky or sarcastic, or be a polished and proper presenter? Your host "personality" should fit the game, the venue, and your comfort level. Having a consistent approach will make your hosting look more professional and gain you those loyal fans. Try to get in a few good practice rounds with friends or family. Have them give you an honest opinion on things like your articulation, the quality of the material, and whether your jokes are funny or flat. Remember that you will likely be your own worst critic, so try not to be too hard on yourself. Pitch Your Show Now that you've got your gear and your props, you've learned your material, and practiced on your friends, it is time to book your first gig. This is where things really get exciting, and it doesn't have to be all that difficult! Sure, you can make yourself a website and spend time and money placing ads on social media, but you can also just walk into your favorite pub or cafe and pitch your show! Trivia shows or music bingo nights are a great way for local businesses to get people in the door on slower nights of the week. You may want to bring in a buzzer or tell a couple of your jokes, something to let the bar or restaurant know what kind of show you are offering. It is probable that your first couple shows may not make you any money, but everyone needs a little experience when they are just getting started. We have an excellent e-guide in our Trivia Store for the aspiring trivia or game night host. This inexpensive resource has an entire section on booking gigs as well as a ton of information on putting on a quality show. There you have it! Five easy steps to becoming a game show host! You are now armed with all you need to be hosting your very own show and living out your dreams.
Have a question about one of these steps or even something that isn't listed here? Drop us a line! We love to help aspiring hosts any way that we can. |
