This game aims to bring out the hardcore person in you, while ensuring that you learn a lot about changing cultures.Written by:- Farhan Subi
Punk rock has been an incredibly popular genre and movement that was incredibly popular from the 1980s and quickly died out. It was such a popular movement amongst the youth of those days and was one of the best ways for them to voice their opinions loudly. It conveyed how they rebelled against options that were ‘forced’ onto them and punk rock music was a way of telling the ‘man’ to screw themselves. This incredible, grunge-y playlist features music by bands like The Stooges, Dead Boys while also featuring incredibly famous and genre defining songs like ‘Anarchy in the UK,’ Rebel Girl, Los Angeles and more. So get your grunge ready as this is punk rock music bingo! Let’s work our way up top. First, we need the usual thing required for any party - decorations. Punk rock is so diverse yet they all follow a very similar theme that would be easy to master and makes perfect sense as well. For starters, you can line the walls with posters of punk idols like Blondie, The Ramones and many other punk rock bands and musicians. It also helps if you follow a very dark-ish color theme as well. You can throw up incredible decorations from the 90s as that’s when it peaked. Think of gold and black sequins, gold utensils as well as it does help with the overall vibe of the party. You can complete the decorations by throwing in smaller things like a metal chain or spikes, though make sure the spikes aren’t far too pointy that it might hurt others. Next up is the dress code. Of course, every party does need a dress code, especially if it follows a very particular and specific theme. Of course, punk rock is a very, very diverse theme and each subset of punk follows very different styles of fashion. For example, horror punk and deathrock fashion are incredibly similar to something like goth fashion. Dresses like fishnet stockings, corsets and fairly elaborate make-up for both men and women are common. For pop punk, it features dresses like band hoodies, dress shirts with thin ties or scarves, blazers and more. Obviously, one key aspect of punk rock was crazy and something that was fairly hardcore hairstyle. They often used to dye their hair in different colors like a bright pink or dark green or colors along those lines. Alternatively, people did have incredibly spiky hair as well. Next up is food. You don’t actually need to go over the top with this one since most common food can be presented nice enough and matches with the theme. For example, you can simply bake small cupcakes and decorate it with frosting that looks very spiky. Or if you want to bake some cookies, you can bake them in a CD like shape and serve it with white frosting and perhaps, if you wanted to, you can pipe the name of the band or artist on it as well, adding somewhat of a personal touch. You can serve sandwiches shaped like a star or instead of sandwiches, you can always serve some meat or some cheese in a star shape or if you’re very experienced, try adding spikes or something similar on it. Another idea is simply serving ice cream in some sugar cones and topping them off with chocolate shavings or sprinkles if you can do that. If you have plans of installing a bar, you can name it the ‘Rebels’ or ‘Misfits’ selection and have drinks that truly embodies the punk spirit! Finally, let’s gloss over some very simple and trivial things that do play an important role in the party. The music bingo can be played by a band if possible, who dresses up like a punk rock band itself. Alternatively, you can also play the band over the speakers as usual and don’t forget to encourage the guests to sing along if they know the lyrics. One fun bit to add here is a mosh pit, where your guests can dance to the punk rock hits! Let’s also not forget about the invitations. You want your guests to feel like they’re actually in a punk rock concert. There are two ways to go about this - either print out invitations that look like a ticket to a concert or you can give them a CD that has the names of some of the bands or artists of the song on the playlist. These are some ideas that your guests would certainly enjoy for the Punk Rock Themed Music Bingo and if you have better ideas, feel free to let us know! Again, you can find the playlist to match the game on every major music streaming platform like Amazon Music, Spotify, Apple Music, etc. Happy music bingo!
